Press release Published 10/30/2019

From the 4th of November 2019 and the 6th of January 2020, in the Atrium, floor 0

  • The children will be enthralled by the Christmas magic and will help other children and youngsters with disabilities or chronic diseases to experience horse therapy.

Lapland may be many, many miles away and the snow won’t probably fall in the side of the country, but you’ll only need to step into MAR Shopping Matosinhos to feel the magic of spending Christmas in a Northern country where the white coolness of snow contrasts with the warmth of the season’s lights. A mini ice ring and a carrousel turn the Atrium, on floor 0, into a true Christmas Magic Land. But that’s not all the fun, and children and grownups will have more than one moment to fill their heart with lots of music. Christmas arrives at MAR Shopping Matosinhos on the 4th of November and is to stay until the 6th of January 2020.

And so that children and youngsters can receive presents in this so special season, MAR Shopping Matosinhos, once again turns plays into dreams made true. Each entrance into this magic land costs 1€ (one euro) that will revert to the Horse Therapy Association of Porto and Matosinhos so they can provide horse therapy to children and youngsters with disabilities or incapacities.

Surely, this magic story would not happen without its leading star. Santa Claus arrives on December 1st and stays around to take pictures with the children and listen to their Christmas wishes, that he will then put in their Christmas socks.

“The Sound of Music” welcomes Santa

It is already a tradition. It is not really Christmas until “The Sound of Music” film plays on TV. But MAR Shopping Matosinhos has a new special proposition. A live version of the famous musical, with 17 actors, including the 7 Von Trapp children, which will remember Maria’s story: the unruly nun who won the Von Trapp family’s heart and became so loved by them. This free show will welcome Santa Claus at the Interior Stage of MAR Shopping Matosinhos food court, on Decemcer 1st, at 12:30am.

“The clumsy goblin”, “Pirates save Christmas”, “Santa’s daughter” and “Candy Kiki” are the other free shows that will take over the food court stage every Saturday of December, at 2:30 pm.

Peter Pan on Ice will bring even more magic to this festive season

And, since this season calls for childhood and a world of dreams, it is also the right time to see “Peter Pan on Ice”. A show inspired by the character that refuses to grow up, of J. M. Barrie, which will take place in the AM Arena, outside MAR Shopping Matosinhos, between the 15th November 2019 and 12th January 2010.

Marta Melo, as Tinkerbell, and António Camelier, as Captain Hook, are the leading stars of a cast of actors, singers and skaters of this children musical that will lead children through an adventure in Never Never Land. More information on the show and tickets may be consulted at
